Q: What is the diode cable length?
A: The standard cable length is 3 Meters. If a longer cable is desired, 10 Meter extension cables are available.

Q: What is the expected lifetime of the diode?
A: As long as the diode and cable are treated with care, lifetime should be at least 10 years or 1,000,000 cGy. The most common cause of diode failure is cable or connector failure.

Q: Do I need negative or positive output diodes?
A: The diode output should match the input of your electrometer. Sun Nuclear’s rf-IVD™ and Model 1137 IVD™ are polarity independent.

Q: Will the diodes work on my electrometer that was made by a different manufacturer?
A: Yes.

Q: Why does the diode include buildup?
A: This is provided as a convenience. Most patient dose measurements are desired at dmax. The buildup for each diode is chosen to return a result that is close to dmax for the particular energy range of the diode used. Without standard buildup, the measured data would have to be manually corrected for dmax. If for some reason this approach is desired, Sun Nuclear does manufacture a diode without buildup – The QED™ Skin Detector.

Q: What is the sensitivity of the diode?
A: 0.4nC/cGy

Q: What is the reproducibility of the diode?
A: 99.5% reproducible for >1 cGy

Q: Which diode style does Sun Nuclear sell more of: QED™ or ISORAD™?
A: Overall sales between the QED™ and ISORAD™ are evenly split.
